Finding people online is made easier with specialized free people search sites. This article is divided into four sections:

Free People Search with Phone Directories

  • Switchboard: Awarded Pc Magazine's Best of the Internet 2004; allows you to search for businesses, people, phone numbers, email addresses, and lots more.
  • Lycos People Search: Search not only the white and yellow pages, but for professional profiles and alumni emails as well.
  • Teldir: Information and services for more than 216 countries, international calling codes.
  • WhitePages.com: Search by both first and last names to find a phone number.
  • DexOnline: Search for residential, business, and government phone listings.
  • Anywho.com: Find a business or person via phone number.

Find Business Information

  • Ziggs.com: Ziggs offers a search platform for professionals for finding people in business online."
  • LinkedIn: LinkedIn is an online network of more than 6 million experienced professionals from around the world, representing 130 industries."
  • inter800.com: Find 1-800 numbers with the Internet 800 Directory.
  • Yahoo Local: Use Yahoo Local to find businesses near you.
  • BigBook.com: Search for U.S. businesses in the online yellow pages.
  • Chamber of Commerce Locator: Find a chamber of commerce in the states or overseas.
  • US Securities and Exchange: Find lots of good information about individual businesses here, inluding salaries and stockholding information.

Obituary Search

  • Ancestry.com- Social Security Master Death Index: Start your basic research here, but this site does require paid access for more detailed information. An excellent place to begin, since this site has one of the largest family history databases on the Web.
  • The Obituary Daily Times: Searchable database of obituaries; also available in a free emailed newsletter format (over 2500 entries a day is typical).
  • National Obituary Archive: The National Obituary Archive? is the world's largest repository of obituaries and death records with more than 55 million individual entries on file. Visitors may search the archive freely to learn about the deaths of friends or family or to explore relationships when building family trees or doing genealogical research."
  • ObitCentral: Obituary Central is an obituary database for finding obituaries and performing cemetery searches."
  • Obituary Listings Index: Obituaries of interesting and famous people.
  • Obits.com: Obituaries of public figures.
  • New York Times Obituaries Page: Obituaries here go back to the 1800's, very interesting archives.
  • Boston Public Library Obituary Database: Especially useful for serious genealogical searchers; goes back as far as 1971.

  • Yahoo Free People Search: One of the most simple and easy to use interfaces out there. Comprehensive results are delivered quickly. Also allows email search.
